Lumber Yard Assistant Manager Summary

Baillie Lumber Co. has an immediate opening for an Assistant Manager at our Cove City, NC facility.  This position is a full time, permanent position working directly with the yard manager and assisting in production runs, employee management, safety and yard reporting.

Lumber Yard Assistant Manager Responsibilities:

  • Develop and standardize processes and procedures from Yard Manager.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets, reports, budgetary items, training and regulatory activities.
  • Assist in managing scheduling and timing of production. Plan for current and future production requirements and maximize equipment use.
  • Implement plans and checks on production progress with continuous follow up.
  • Assist in promoting a continuous improvement culture through communication and coaching employees as well as finding opportunities for streamlining production activities and enhancing value-added processes.
  • Manage and monitor the safety and health factors, according to OSHA.
  • Requires a leader committed to getting the job done in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Foresee potential problems before they develop, stay focused during busy times, solve problems and delegate tasks to employees to keep things running smoothly all while keeping a level head and producing a cost effective and quality product.

Lumber Yard Assistant Manager Experience:

  • BS/BA in Wood Products, Manufacturing, or any related field is required.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience with a demonstrated work history of accomplishments and increasing responsibility.
  • A working knowledge of lumber grading, process engineering, safe work practices and maintenance procedures.
  • Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment and especially must be able to interface, communicate and motivate line operators in order to facilitate efficient operations and continuous improvement.
  • This is an ideal position for an industry veteran to take on a managerial position
